Setting Up a Dail-up Connection in Windows 98SE/ME

"Message Rules" are rules that Outlook and Outlook Express use to perform certain actions with certain messages. They may be used to send automated reply mail, to move your mail into certain, criteria specific folders, to highlight it, or, most commonly, to automatically delete or avoid unwanted mail (SPAM).

From the desktop:
  • Click 'Start', 'Settings', and 'Control Panel'.

  • Double-click 'Internet Options'.

  • Select the 'Connections' tab and click on 'Setup'.

  • Choose "I want to set up my internet account manually." and click 'Next'.

  • Choose "I connect through a phone line and modem." and click 'Next'.

  • Deselect "Dial using area code..." and enter your local dial-up number, found here, in the "Phone Number" field. Click 'Next'.

  • Enter your Quik username (without "@quik.com" on the end) and password. Click 'Next'.

  • Name this connection "Quik".

  • If you want to set up your Quik email now, choose "Yes..." and click 'Next'.

  • Choose "Create new..." and click 'Next'.

  • Enter the name you would like people to see when you email them (generally your name) and click 'Next'.

  • Enter your Quik email address and click 'Next'.

  • The incoming mail server is a POP3 server. Where you can type in its address, enter "pop.quik.com". For the outgoing mail server, enter "mail.quik.com". Click 'Next'.

  • Click 'Next' again.

  • Choose 'Finish'.
